Additional Information AboutThe Role
Children's Hospital is looking for a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist who will provide pharmaceutical services to patients in the Emergency Department. The individual will cultivate relationships with medical and nursing staff to provide timely drug information and promote adherence to regulatory standards. They will individualize medication regimens using sound principles, accounting for pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic variations in drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination, and will be responsible for establishing and continually improving the delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients within areas of direct responsibility and assisting others in the pharmacy department with the same.
The clinical pharmacy specialist will also participate in the training of pharmacy students, staff, and pharmacy residents.
- Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy
- Licensed pharmacist in the state of Missouri
- Board certification within 2 years of starting position
- PGY1 Residency experience
- PGY2 Pediatric Residency
- Board certification (specialty)
- Monday – Friday - Days
- 4 weekends a year rotation

Purpose
Evaluates and recommends appropriate drug therapy to achieve optimal cost-effective patient outcomes, by working directly with physicians, other health professionals, and patients. Participates in the development, provision and evaluation of comprehensive pharmaceutical care and quality assurance programs through scholarly activities. Serves as a resource to the pharmacy staff and other hospital departments.
Responsibilities- Assess the overall status of the patient’s health condition and evaluate medication profile for optimal patient outcomes. Monitor therapy and goals of care. Document all activities and communication as appropriate.
- Participate in professional development and research activities.
- Contribute to performance improvement, clinical effectiveness, drug use evaluation, and HSO/BJC committee activities.
- Participate in the education and training of pharmacy staff, residents and students, and serve as a role model and mentor.
- Participate in the identification and implementation of targeted drug cost reduction programs.
