Position SummaryThis program is time-limited (up to 2 years) and is primarily aimed at applicants with fewer than 6 months of full-time research experience or who are switching research fields and are interested in applying to a PhD or MD/PhD program. The program is research-focused; participants will spend ~90% of their time in the laboratory of a selected mentor and also receive additional training to prepare for research, academics, and self-presentation.
The curriculum includes workshops, seminars, research forums, graduate-level classes, and training in CV preparation and graduate school applications. MD or other health-related degree preparation is not provided.
40 hours per week.
Job DescriptionParticipants are designated as full-time paid employees for up to two years and are eligible for university-sponsored benefits, including health insurance.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Work under the supervision of senior personnel on research projects, providing independent complex research support.
- Present research results to peers and supervisors in written and/or verbal form.
- Conduct experiments, assays, data collection, preparation of solutions, tissue culture, animal care and maintenance, and set up and maintain equipment.
- Comply with established safety procedures and maintain required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Attend meetings, educational workshops, and seminars to prepare for advanced study.
- Perform data entry and maintain data files on research.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
- Physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals.
- Physical effort: sitting at desk or table; repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement.
- Equipment: office and laboratory equipment.
