Location: St. Louis

Find your calling at Mercy! Onsite position located at Mercy Hospital STL – Ballas Campus.

As a case management specialist, you will interview uninsured/under‑insured patients in a hospital setting to determine eligibility for State Medicaid benefits and Financial Assistance. Your role includes assisting patients in hospital rooms with application processes to ensure accurate and appropriate submissions, building positive relationships, and communicating the eligibility process and Medicaid benefits. Oversight of signatures on State forms and clear communication regarding any additional required documents are central to this position.

This role is on‑site and not remote.

Qualifications
  • Employment Qualifications:

    - Minimum education:

    High School Diploma or GED.

    - 1–2 years of experience in healthcare, social work, or case management with patients facing financial concerns or under‑insured status.

    - Experience with self‑pay, under‑insured, or compromised populations in a face‑to‑face customer service capacity, explaining complex programs proactively.

  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    - Understanding of Revenue Cycle functions including billing, payments, denials, authorizations, and benefit verifications.

    - Knowledge of health insurance requirements and medical terminology.

    - Patient access experience with managed care/insurance knowledge.

    - Ability to comprehend various state Medicaid plan qualifications and communicate patient benefits clearly and effectively.

    - Strong math skills to identify the best program for an applicant among available options.

    - Proficiency in completing written applications with patients to submit to state agencies and ensuring supporting documents are provided timely.

    - Customer service ability and strong face‑to‑face communication skills with a bias for action, patient/consumer‑focused, entrepreneurial mindset, and commitment to excellence and service.
