Health Information Specialist 1 – Datavant
Join Datavant, a leading data platform company and world‑leader in health data exchange, as an entry‑level Health Information Specialist. In this role you will process all release of information (ROI) requests, such as medical record requests, within a high‑volume environment, ensuring accuracy, compliance with HIPAA and company policy, and exceptional customer service.
Position Highlights- Full Time:
Monday‑Friday 8:00‑4:30 pm - Locations:
Saint Louis or O’Fallon, MO - High‑volume environment
- Processing medical record requests (insurance, DDS, workers’ comp, subpoenas)
- Documenting information across multiple platforms using two computer monitors
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology
- Familiarity with various EHR and billing systems
- Experience working with subpoenas
- Comprehensive onsite/virtual training program followed by job shadowing with an assigned mentor
- Company equipment supplied (computer, monitor, virtual phone, etc.)

- Receive and process patient health information requests in accordance with company and facility policies.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged information.
- Manage patient health records and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Create and assemble medical records in accurate, standard order.
- Respond to inbound and outbound calls.
- Handle administrative duties such as faxes, mail opening, and data entry.
- Meet productivity expectations and assist with additional duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic computer proficiency (MS Office)
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
- Detail‑oriented with strong data entry skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Capacity to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities
- Willingness to commute between locations and to work overtime during peak periods
- Experience in a healthcare environment
- Previous production or metric‑based work experience
- In‑person customer service experience
- Strong client‑relationship skills
- Track record of process improvement suggestions and feedback to stakeholders
