Position Summary
May lead the work of Medical Assistants in the clinical operation of a patient care setting; may serve as the primary clinical resource in a large multi‑physician practice.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
Patient Care Duties:
- Interact directly with patients in clinic setting, obtaining vital signs, conducting EKGs, phlebotomy and medication verification.
- Prepare for office hours by obtaining charts, scheduling tests and preparing exam rooms.
- Assist with examinations, procedures and lab tests.
- Assist with renewal and authorization of non‑narcotic medications per standing orders.
- Administer medications under physician or nurse practitioner orders, including vaccines and injections.
Communication & Documentation:
- Schedule and assign work to other Medical Assistants; orient and train new staff.
- Direct patient flow, assist with special procedures and complete requisitions.
- Route phone messages and patient questions to appropriate personnel.
- Coordinate care by calling patients with test results, scheduling appointments and follow‑ups, and assisting with surgical and diagnostic admissions.
- Complete necessary paperwork and documentation promptly.
- Respond to basic questions from patients/families regarding treatments, diagnoses and procedures.
- Complete requisitions/orders per WashU guidelines.
Equipment & Supplies:
- Monitor supply inventory and ensure availability of necessary equipment and garments.
- Clean, stock and sterilize exam rooms and instruments.
Other Functions:
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and participate in in‑services, staff programs, continuing education and cross‑training according to established standards.
- Comply with OSHA, state and federal regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement activities to enhance clinical outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Standing or walking.
- Bending, crouching or stooping.
- Occasional lifting (25 lbs or less).
- Office and clinical/diagnostic equipment.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent certification, or combination of education and experience.
- Basic Life Support – American Heart Association or Red Cross.
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Health career Association.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants.
- Licensed Practical Nurse, Illinois or Missouri.
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists.
- Registered Nurse, Illinois or Missouri.
Relevant experience: 3 years.

Work Experience:
3 years Medical Assistant, 1 year supervisory.
Skills:
Anatomy, communication, EMR, interactive communication, interpersonal relationships, medical terminology, physiology, telephone communications.
Grade: C07‑H. Salary range: $19.21 – $28.85 per hour.
