JOB SUMMARYThe Linux Endpoint Technician to support Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) desktops in academic and research environments. This role is ideal for a technician with hands‑on experience in Linux support, particularly in classroom and lab settings, who can work independently and communicate effectively with faculty, researchers, and IT colleagues.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide technical support for RHEL‑based Linux desktops in academic and research areas
- Use tools such as RHEL Satellite Server to manage and maintain Linux endpoints
- Assist with system imaging, patching, configuration, and troubleshooting
- Collaborate with faculty and researchers to support specialized software and computing needs
- Write and maintain basic scripts to automate routine tasks and improve system efficiency
- Document procedures, configurations, and support resolutions
- Participate in endpoint lifecycle management and contribute to system security and compliance efforts
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Familiarity with RHEL Satellite Server or similar Linux management platforms
- Basic scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to handle complex challenges
- Ability to remain composed and solution‑focused in dynamic or challenging support situations
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate technical information to non‑technical people
- High School Diploma or the equivalent
- Two or more years of experience supporting Linux systems, preferably in academic or research environments
- Familiarity with RHEL Satellite Server or similar Linux management platforms.
- Basic scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain composed and solution‑focused in dynamic or challenging support situations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Bachelor's degree in information technology or a closely related field
- Experience supporting Linux in higher education or research computing environments.
- Familiarity with classroom technologies and lab setups.
- Understanding of endpoint security and compliance practices
