ST. FRANCIS COMMUNITY SERVICES(SFCS), an agency in the Catholic Charities of St. Louis Federation, is seeking a full-time staff attorney to assist with the legal needs of clients in our Family Law Department. Each year, SFCS assists 3,500+ impoverished and marginalized individuals throughout the St. Louis area.

Catholic Legal Assistance Ministry, a program of St. Francis Community Services, provides legal aid to low-income individuals who live in or have a case in one of the 11 counties of the St. Louis Archdiocese. Our areas of practice include family law, guardian ad litem appointments, guardianship law and immigration law.

Job Description:

This family law staff attorney will provide legal representation in the following areas:

  • Orders of Protection, Custody, Child Support, Paternity, Dissolution, Family Access, Third Party Custody, Modifications, Guardianship of Minors and Incapacitated Adults and accept Guardian ad Litem appointments as case load permits
  • Responsible for these duties:
    • Pre-trial and trial preparation through case disposition
    • Promote and protect client's best interests
    • Attend court dockets and appearances for assigned caseload
    • Draft motions and pleadings
    • Maintain client contact consistent with Missouri Rules of Professional Conduct

Qualifications:

  • Required

    Education:

    J.D. from an accredited ABA institute
  • Required Certification/Licensure:
    License to practice law in Missouri and in good standing with the Missouri Bar Association
  • Preferred experience with family law, non-profit or legal aid law
  • Preferred experience working with low income, under resourced populations, victims of abuse/trauma, and multi-cultural populations.
  • Preferred fluent in Spanish in addition to English
