Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Nucor St. Louis Cold Drawn is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Forklift Utility Operator. This role keeps our production lines running by safely transporting and providing materials and consumables needed for production and the efficient operation of the facility. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move, stage, and deliver materials and consumables throughout the facility.
- Monitor consumable usage on production lines and restock supplies before shortages affect production.
- Track and record consumable inventory, including receipts, issues, and cycle counts, and report discrepancies to the supervisor.
- Receive, inspect, and put away incoming parts and supplies; identify damaged or incorrect items.
- Communicate with line operators and supervisors to anticipate needs and support schedule changes.
- Perform pre-shift inspections on forklifts, cranes, and rigging; report defects and remove unsafe equipment from service.
- Maintain organized, clearly labeled storage areas and uphold housekeeping standards.
- Assist with other utility, production and housekeeping tasks as directed by the Supervisor or Group Leader
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating a forklift in an industrial setting
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in an industrial environment with exposure to heat, noise, and dust
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US (Nucor St. Louis Cold Drawn will not sponsor the need for a visa now or in the future)
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Experience operating overhead cranes and performing rigging
- Current forklift and/or overhead crane certification
- Experience with inventory tracking or supply replenishment in a production environment
- Experience in a steel or metals manufacturing facility
