Agency Summary
Food Outreach is the only St. Louis area organization and non-profit whose mission is to provide nutritional support to enhance the quality of life of men, women, and children living with HIV or cancer. Food Outreach provides a combination of nutritionally supportive services through Medically Tailored Meals and groceries, Medical Nutrition Therapy, and nutrition education.
Team CompensationWe are excited to welcome a new team member whose compensation will include agency-paid platinum health benefits, 10 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick time, family medical leave, and employer‑contribution retirement plans.
Position OverviewThis position is a key member of the development team, serving a dual leadership role across two major functional areas. It oversees grants administration, including prospecting, securing, and managing corporate and foundation grants that align with the agency’s strategic priorities. It also leads communications, implementing comprehensive strategies that steward the agency’s brand and effectively share its story of impact with donors and the broader community.
This is a full‑time, exempt position, governed by our standard personnel policies for all staff.
Essential Functions Foundation and Corporate Grants (70%)- Manage and steward a portfolio of 100 foundation and corporate funders by maintaining a calendar of deadlines to ensure timely submissions and reporting.
- Lead all grant submissions, including letters of inquiry, applications, acknowledgements, compliance documentation, and reporting.
- Identify programs, projects, and capital needs that align with funder priorities.
- Coordinate leadership involvement, including touchpoints with the Executive Director, Senior Director, and collaborating with the Director of Nutrition and Programs and the Director of Operations.
- Lead public recognition of grant awards.
- Conduct ongoing prospect research to identify new grant opportunities supporting organizational strategic goals.
- Generate creative, mission‑driven content 2-3 times per week to engage volunteers, donors, and partners, cross‑posted to Facebook, Instagram, and Linked In.
- Curate high‑engagement social media and program content for a monthly e‑blast to boost supporter connection.
- Lead creation of print materials, including the annual report, annual appeals, and other assets with an outsourced graphic design partner.
- Interview clients for meaningful impact stories for grant reports, socials, and other collateral.
- Direct the work of the agency’s outsourced graphic design partner and oversee all content revisions.
- Write press releases as necessary.
- Solicit Sponsor ships for A Tasteful Affair, the agency’s annual gala.
- Support fundraising event goals through the timely creation of collateral, including invitations, sponsorship menus, and signage with an outsourced graphic design partner.
- 3+ years of experience working in grants administration.
- Exceptional writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
- A proven track record in managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently and meeting deadlines.
- High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications at both the strategic and tactical levels.
- Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, clients, donors, program participants, and other supporters.
- Self‑starter, able to work independently; enjoys creating and implementing.
The following qualifications are required:
- 3+ years of experience in grant writing or a related field.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Social Sciences, or another related field.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate information in written and spoken language to diverse groups of people.
- Passion for the mission and values of Food Outreach and the national Food Is Medicine Coalition.
- Valid driver’s license
- Availability for occasional local and national travel
- Comfort working at a computer workstation for extended periods
This position reports to the Senior Director.
SalarySalary Range: $55,000-$60,000 commensurate with experience.
