Operating Room Nurse – Experienced

The Operating Room is divided into five Pods that specialize in different surgical areas:
- Pod 1: Pelvic specialties – gynecology, urology, colorectal, and general surgery
- Pod 2: Trauma services, reconstructive orthopedics (hip/knee replacement), orthoscopic knee and shoulder, and plastics repair
- Pod 3: Cardiac, transplant, vascular, and heart/lung transfers
- Pod 4: Ophthalmology, orthopedics, ENT, MIS, plastics, and general oncology
- Pod 5: Orthopedics, spine, neuro, ENT, and kidney/liver transplants

- Adoption assistance
- Educate patients and families on the procedure, expectations, and available support resources; serve as liaison between physician, patient, and family.
- Competently perform scrubbing and/or circulating roles for all surgical services defined by HSO.
- Apply established safety techniques to prepare for and assist with surgical procedures, providing and setting up necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment in line with physician preferences.
- Ensure patient safety by preventing adverse events such as infection, burns, pressure ulcers, and wrong‑site surgery; monitor for complications or breaches in sterile technique and provide emergency equipment to mitigate outcomes; preserve and label operative specimens.
- Participate in activities that promote safety, quality, and regulatory compliance; engage in lifelong learning; and, when needed, orient and precept new staff.
- Education: Nursing diploma or associate’s degree
- Experience: 2–5 years as an operating room nurse
