Located in the Plaza Tower, this unit bridges ICU and general care, offering continuous telemetry and advanced neuro monitoring. Nurses here work closely with neurologists and a full interdisciplinary team, with strong support from leadership and a dedicated nurse educator. The Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 21 bed unit dedicated to the care of patients in need of specialized nursing care at a critical point in their healthcare journey, where they are at high risk for clinical deterioration. Progressive care, with lower nurse patient ratios, allows for frequent assessment, intervention, treatment and specialized monitoring.
The unit cares for pre and postoperative neurosurgical, neuro-medicine and stroke patients with complex needs using a team approach with nurses, charge nurse and patient care techs. Bedside, central monitoring, and remote telemetry are standard for all PCU patients. Many resources are available to nurses on this unit, including:
Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Mananger, Assistant Nurse Managers and a Nurse Educator. Additionally this nursing team collaborates with and are supported by a wide array of the multidisciplinary providers, physicians and pharmacists.
A specialized orientation is provided to prepare nurses to care for the neuroscience patient as well as training specific to Progressive Care. Ongoing education and professional development is supported and encouraged.
Attention to nursing patients with the provision of excellent outcomes is what drives the work on this unit.
