Director, Ambulatory Operations for Barnes Jewish Hospital- multiple locations Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital's staff is composed of full-time academic faculty and community physicians of Washington University School of Medicine, supported by a house staff of residents, interns, fellows and other medical professionals. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

The Center for Advanced Medicine - South County is a new outpatient facility, jointly owned by Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, that is under construction in South St. Louis County. The building, scheduled to open in late spring 2016, is located near the Siteman Cancer Center at I‑55 and Butler Hill Rd. This new, two‑story, approximately 84,500 square foot outpatient facility will include outpatient surgery, imaging, lab, therapy, and Washington University physician subspecialty offices including the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Surgery, and OB/GYN.

The surgery suite includes two operating rooms and two minor procedure rooms. Imaging services will include plain film, CT, MRI, and screening mammography.

Role Purpose

The Director of Operations, Ambulatory Services oversees CAM (Center for Advanced Medicine) South County, South County Siteman and Business Operations for the Center for Outpatient Health.

Responsibilities
  • Identifies and initiates cost reduction strategies.
  • Directs and manages the operating and capital budgeting processes for the department, including the monitoring of actual costs against these budgets.
  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: onboarding and hiring, training, workload management & performance evaluations, conducting professional development plans as needed. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  • Directs overall operations and sets strategic direction of ambulatory care services and related programs and services.
  • Prioritizes and implements quality monitoring, regulatory compliance, and reporting for outpatient and ambulatory needs.
  • Measures and monitors patient satisfaction, process indicators, quality improvement plans and outcomes in all departments.
  • Coordinates all services and ensures that patient flow is optimized.
  • Collaborates with Medical Directors and WUSM leadership to develop committees for ambulatory and outpatient initiatives.
Minimum Requirements Education
  • Bachelor's Degree (Business/Healthcare related)
