Position Summary
The veterinarian position will oversee the health of all animals is County's animal shelters. This position requires on-call and weekend hours as needed. These requirements can be negotiated with the candidate upon start date.

Responsibilities- Oversee the health of all animals is County's animal shelter.
- Determine nature of and treat health conditions in animals medically and/or surgically.
- Perform spay/neuter operations as required.
- Perform euthanasia procedures as required.
- Perform necropsies on animals to determine cause of death and oversee investigations to control and prevent communicable diseases between animals and humans.
- Maintain and monitor controlled drug supply as required by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
- Prepare reports and maintain veterinary records and files for compliance with state statutes and policies.
- Adapt practices to ensure the most current approaches to animal health and welfare are implemented.
New graduates are encouraged to apply. Requires licensure as a Veterinarian with the Missouri Veterinary Medical Board or a Provisional Missouri License.
Selection and AppointmentA selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant, including recentness and appropriateness of education and experience, answers to supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated, and other appropriate information. The committee will admit to interview only those persons with the most job‑related qualifications, and may establish criteria beyond the minimum qualifications. Applicants must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment.
Candidates will receive an email with instructions to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire; they have 3 days to complete it.
The five top ranking candidates, based on final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. The screening cost is covered by the County. Newly hired employees must attest to their COVID-19 vaccination status within 30 calendar days after their first day of employment.
Those who are not fully vaccinated must submit to weekly COVID-19 testing until fully vaccinated or until county reaches vaccination threshold.
