Job SummaryPerform analytical and microbiological testing of food products, ingredients, and environmental samples. Apply approved microbiological techniques and methodologies, ensuring compliance with FSNS policies and customer requirements.
Essential Responsibilities- Accurately perform and read test results and report deviations to Laboratory Management.
- Prepare and analyze samples for indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemistries.
- Maintain aseptic and microbiological techniques in all daily tasks.
- Report inventory and expendable supplies/materials required for testing.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance: cleaning, sanitizing, trash disposal, and equipment quality control.
- Assist in quality duties such as incubator temperature checks, inoculating control organisms, running media controls, etc.
- Pursue assigned processes and procedures per FSNS policies and customer requirements.
- Stay current with scientific journals, workshops, and industry trends to maintain technical competence.
- Perform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner.
- Share information openly and in a timely manner.
- Help manage priorities and schedules to achieve individual and team goals.
- Ensure the safety of oneself and coworkers in the work area.
No supervisory responsibilities.
Education & Experience- Associate degree in Life Sciences or related field with at least two years of laboratory experience (preferred).
- Two or more years in a commercial food‑testing or analytical laboratory, or equivalent education and experience.
- Knowledge of aseptic sampling techniques, automated lab equipment, and accepted methods/procedures.
- Familiarity with GLP, OSHA guidelines, FDA, BAM, APHA, ISO, and USP methods.
- Broad understanding of food testing laboratory concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to travel when necessary.
- Fine motor dexterity for computer use and handling instruments.
- Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens.
- Noise levels vary from quiet to loud.
- Temperature variations from hot to cold.
- Fast‑paced, team‑oriented tasks.
- Overnight travel may be required at management decision.
- Occasional lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds.
