On-call Field Archaeologist – WSP

We are looking for an on‑call Field Archaeologist to support a long‑term Phase III archaeological data recovery project at five multi‑component Pre‑Contact sites. The sites are located in close proximity to each other and contain components dating from the Late Archaic through the Late Pre‑Contact periods. The role is hour‑by‑hour, with competitive hourly rates based on North American CRM experience and regional archaeological experience.

Candidates local to Arkansas, Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, and eastern Kansas are ideal due to the work locations and schedule, but all qualified applicants will be considered. The project is based in and around several U.S. offices, including Louisville, Kentucky;
Lexington, Kentucky;
Kansas City, Missouri;
Ballwin, Missouri; and Jefferson City, Missouri.

• Assist with multiple Phase III data recovery projects (with additional work at Phase I and II levels) by completing tasks such as:
• Archaeological test unit and shovel test excavation;
• Excavation of cultural features;
• Recovery and identification of archaeological artifacts and other materials;
• Using archaeological field forms to record data, including type and number of artifacts, soil color (Munsell) and soil textures, and other relevant information.
• Work effectively as part of a team.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
• Strictly abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

• Undergraduate degree in anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field.
• Archaeological field school or similar field experience.
• Self‑motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and able to follow instructions.

• Prior experience with Pre‑Contact archaeological sites in Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and the surrounding region.
• Pre‑Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis.
