What You’ll Do

The SVT Intermediate Fleet Technician plays a critical role in maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment to ensure optimal functionality, safety, and performance. This position requires a solid foundation in automotive and diesel systems, along with hands‑on experience diagnosing and maintaining small gas and diesel engines used in equipment such as mowers, chainsaws, and ATVs.

Working under the supervision of a Lead Technician or Fleet Manager, the technician will use hand and power tools to troubleshoot fuel and electrical systems, perform tune‑ups, and resolve a variety of mechanical and technical issues. This role is ideal for a technician who enjoys problem‑solving, teamwork, and keeping fleet operations running smoothly.

Job Duties:
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine preventive maintenance including oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks and replacements, filter replacements, and other services to maintain fleet reliability.
  • Diagnostic Assessment: Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues. Analyze error codes and symptoms to determine root causes.
  • Repair and Replacement: Repair or replace components such as brakes, suspension systems, exhaust systems, electrical systems, and drive trains with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: Investigate complex vehicle issues through testing, inspection, and review of technical manuals to develop effective repair solutions.
  • Warranty and Recall Support: Stay current on manufacturer recalls and warranty information and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, parts used, and services performed using electronic maintenance systems.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all vehicles meet safety standards and regulatory requirements; conduct thorough safety inspections after repairs.
  • Parts Management: Order, track, and manage replacement parts and supplies while working with vendors to ensure availability.

    Work closely with other technicians, lead technicians, and supervisors to share knowledge and resolve complex issues.
  • Training and Development: Stay up to date on automotive technologies, repair methods, and industry trends through ongoing training and certifications.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of workmanship to minimize rework and maximize fleet reliability.
  • Emergency Repairs: Respond to urgent repair needs to minimize downtime and maintain operational readiness.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in automotive/diesel technology is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as an automotive/Diesel technician or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and electronic vehicle issues.
  • Knowledge of automotive systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, HVAC, and suspension.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools, software, and equipment.
