The hourly rate for this position is between $25.00 - $32.00 per hour
, depending on geography, skills, education, and experience.
This position is responsible for performing substation testing as a test technician. As an entry‑level test technician, basic tasks and tests will be performed with assistance from more experienced technicians. Maintaining safety is the top priority.
Responsibilities- Knowledge of electrical theory and ability to communicate transformer operations
- Perform basic tests on transformers and circuit breakers (Insulation Resistance, Contact Resistance, Core Ground, Oil Sampling, Ratio tests)
- Read and understand drawings and diagrams
- Assist with grounding – knowledge of clearance, LOTO, etc.
- Set up testing equipment
- Lead in safety culture; adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Participate in safety training programs and meetings
- Ensure all field service activities comply with safety guidelines and company policies
- High School diploma or GED; supplemental electrical maintenance coursework desired
- Current valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Ability to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 50 lbs. (with or without reasonable accommodations)
- Must pass a fit‑for‑duty exam
- Available for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel related to high‑voltage substation work
- Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights
- Able and willing to travel up to 75% as needed for high‑voltage substation work
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- NCCO Crane Certification
- Knowledge of fundamentals and principles of electricity
- Familiarity with hazards and safety precautions in power distribution facilities
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, prints, and metering devices
- Understanding of industry practices and procedures
- Capability to follow oral and written directions
