About The Role

The Ready Force Team Technician plays a key role in gas, water, and electric meter installation/exchange, maintenance and reading, surveying gas lines, as well as customer communication. This position requires a significant amount of walking in outdoor environmental conditions, excellent time management, and flexibility. Traveling throughout the United States up to 100% of the time while supporting various projects is required.

Meter Maintenance:

• Perform visual inspections of water or electric meters for leaks or damage
• Identify hazards at meter sites and report accordingly
• Properly change out water or electric meters of varying sizes and brands
• Properly change out meter registers for AMI/AMR upgrade

Meter Reading:

• Read electric, gas, or water meters
• Enter data collected in the field into a handheld computer

Surveying Meters and Gas Lines:

• Detect location of underground utilities and mark accordingly
• Inspect gas meters and associated piping for proper coatings and evidence of atmospheric corrosion
• Perform visual inspections of gas meters, lines, and fittings
• Grade gas leaks by severity and report escalations accordingly
• Identify hazards at meter sites and report accordingly
• Clean and re‑coat/paint meters and piping

Customer & Team Communication:

• Refer all consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities
• Provide general information about the meter services to customers when applicable
• Use telephones, tablets, and/or computers to communicate
• Participate in company‑provided safety meetings

• Proficient in at least one to two core services such as meter reading (gas, water, or electric), small meter installation/exchange, basic gas line surveying or detection
• Performs under close supervision

• Education:
  
  None. Minimum 18 years of age
• Experience:
  
  Valid driver’s license; upon hire may need to complete Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) training; minimum 1 year in electric, gas, or water meter maintenance, installation, or reading; or gas line detection/surveying

• Education:
  
  High School Diploma or GED
• Experience:
  
  1+ years in gas and/or electric services; 2+ years in direct exchange of water meters and registers of varying sizes

• Valid driver’s license and successful completion of OQ training
• Ability to multi‑task, work independently and as a team
• Exceptional flexibility in daily routines, route scheduling, and work hours
• Adequate time‑management skills to complete daily tasks promptly
• Excellent communication skills with management and customers
• Ability to handle unhappy or negative customers professionally
• Excellent attention to detail for problem‑solving and finding
• Ability to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Basic knowledge of GIS systems and principles
