The Youth Development Professional is responsible for the planning, implementation, and supervision of activities for assigned programs that achieve predetermined program outcomes.
QualificationsEducation: High school diploma required;
Associate degree from an accredited college or university or BA/BS preferred.
Experience: Minimum of one year of experience working with children in a group setting; management experience is a plus.
Licensing Requirements- Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services Medical Examination Report for Caregivers and Staff must meet acceptable standards from the State of Missouri, completed within 30 days of hire.
- TB Risk Assessment and Examination completed within 30 days of hire.
- Annual results of Family Care Safety Registry background screening must be deemed acceptable by the State of Missouri.
- Annual results of nationwide background screening must meet barrier crimes standards for organizational membership with Boys & Girls Clubs or America.
- Meets qualifications and ongoing training requirements per state licensing regulations (12 hrs. annually).
- Able to lift, carry, push, pull, or roll up to 20-25 pounds.
- Capable of prolonged standing, walking, and speaking, with occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching; works in front of a PC monitor.
- Expresses or exchanges ideas by spoken word and conveys detailed or important instructions to others; must perceive sounds at normal levels to ensure safety of children.
- Subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions; may be exposed to noise requiring projection of voice.
- Local and some regional travel is required.
- Routine reporting and grant deadlines; varying work volume.
- Identifies and resolves problems promptly; analyzes information; works well in group problem solving; maintains composure in emotional topics.
- Understands implications of decisions on members; may handle emergencies or crises.
- Manages interruptions without losing concentration; some weekend work is required.
- Keeps current with best practices, resources, and materials; creates opportunities for personalized assistance.
- Exercises creativity to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities; checks voicemail and email daily; attends meetings/events and notifies staff if unable to attend.
- Treats members and parents with dignity and respect.
- Fosters good working relationships with parents, staff, management, and other professionals.
- Balances team and individual responsibilities; supports team success and uses appropriate judgment.
- Cooperates with co-workers; independently plans and completes duties.
- Uses tactful communications in sensitive situations; follows chain of command.
- Maintains high level of customer service with members, parents, volunteers, and partners.
Youth Development Skills
- Applies theories of youth learning across physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and creative domains to BGCSTL programming.
- Aligns mission and Formula for Impact with program implementation; links activities to program goals to achieve outcomes.
- Maintains safe environments, promotes well-being, and encourages healthy lifestyles.
- Develops supportive relationships with children and youth; guides and empowers individuals and groups.
- Participates in planning, delivery, and evaluation of programs; plans and acquires needed equipment and materials.
- Adheres to ethical conduct; understands mandated reporting responsibilities.
- Approaches others tactfully; respects all; follows through on commitments.
- Maintains organizational integrity and ethical conduct; acts dependably and responsibly.
- Prioritizes and plans work; creates realistic program plans; gathers feedback to assess member needs.
- Types accurately; enters information into membership management systems; familiarity with database software;
Microsoft Office is a plus.
