Incumbents for this position assists in developing and implementing outreach/education programs and campaigns, marketing communications and public information tools to promote recycling, waste reduction and waste prevention. This position provides information and technical assistance to engage residents, neighborhood organizations, community leaders, city employees, schools and youth groups to participate fully in efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Assist in designing, developing, modifying and implementing effective outreach programs to promote and encourage recycling and to educate each target audience about the benefits of recycling and waste reduction.
- Work with appropriate staff members to plan and develop educational materials and promotional tools using a variety of outreach methods and types of media.
- Educate residents about recycling at community meetings, special events, school/youth group presentations and other community outreach opportunities.
- Interact with the public, City department and recycling team to provide recycling education, evaluate suggestions and address concerns regarding recycling.
- Assist with grant funding research, preparation of grant applications, implementing grant project tasks as assigned, and complying with grant requirements as necessary.
- Assist in updating various databases, reports and files to monitor progress and determine the effectiveness of recycling outreach efforts.
- Solicit and mobilize volunteers to promote and implement waste reduction projects.
- Answer citizen inquiries and, in consultation with supervisors, address issues.
- Perform related work and other duties, as assigned, to assist with efforts to increase recycling and proper waste management in the city of St. Louis.
- Data Utilization:
Requires the ability to perform basic level of data analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, legal agreements, contracts, statutes and/or guidelines and/or group, rank, investigate and diagnose. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such to established standards to recognize interactive effects and relationships. - Human Interaction:
Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance and/or interpretation to others, such as coworkers, program participants and the public, on how to interpret or apply policies, procedures and standards to specific situations. - Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use:
Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or provide simple but continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as a personal computer, calculator, telephone and/or materials used in performing essential functions. - Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information such as annual reports, advisory board minutes, income eligibility forms, manuals, guidelines and non-routine correspondence. - Mathematical Aptitude:
Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentages, and decimals. - Functional Reasoning:
Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Involves semi-routine standardized work, with some latitude for independent judgment regarding choices of action. - Situational Reasoning:
Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties that may be subject to frequent change. - Environmental Factors:
Work is normally performed in an office environment under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to irate individuals poses a very limited risk of injury. - Physical Requirements:
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects weighing five (5) to ten (10) pounds, such as…
