  • Salary Range:
    Entry rate approx. $36.30 /hr
  • Full‑time (40 hrs /wk). Subject to on‑call, overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travel is required to job sites for extended periods, sometimes for days or weeks at a time, in the designated seniority region.
  • Training is company‑paid on‑the‑job and classroom training and will include travel to the BNSF Training Center.
Key Responsibilities
  • Track maintenance repair and installation: repair and rebuild railroad track, pull spikes, cut, weld, or drill rail; maintain a clean right of way by removing hazards such as brush, trees, vegetation, litter, and cargo spillage.
  • Maintain trackbed: compress ballast, remove or install ties, lift and carry materials.
  • Operate equipment: power hand tools (drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, grinders) and non‑powered hand tools.
  • Work in a safety‑sensitive environment; conditions may include extreme weather, uneven surfaces, loud noises, fumes, and heavy machinery.
  • Adhere to safety regulations, rules, and policies, wear safety equipment, and respond to emergencies.
Basic Qualifications
  • Ability to work in H‑1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN status without BNSF assistance.
  • At least 18 years old by start date.
  • Valid state‑issued driver’s license.
  • Must be able to report for duty at the designated work location.
  • Can work safely in the stated conditions.
  • Can work the shift/hours (40 hrs /wk).
  • Can meet travel requirements.
  • English reading, writing, and communication skills.
  • Can travel to and remain on job sites in the seniority region for extended periods.
  • Can lift and carry up to 60 lbs occasionally.
  • Can visually distinguish colors and differentiate sounds in the work environment.
  • Can perform tasks that require hands and climbing on/off equipment.
  • Bend, walk, stand, and sit for extended time; use hand tools.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures; wear required protective equipment.
Union Information

Union membership is with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees (BMWE); union dues are required per agreement. Seniority district transfers are handled per union agreement and require Director approval.
