Railroad Engineer

Provide a welcoming environment and offer a safe recreational and educational experience on the Zooline Railroad and employee shuttles. Duties include light maintenance, cleaning and driving the train and shuttles, serving as conductor and platform assistant, and selling train tickets. This position starts at $15.50 per hour, but may increase based on certain factors including experience, and availability.

• Assisting guests boarding and disembarking trains
• Driving or serving as conductor on trains
• Inspecting trains and shuttles for safety and pulling and parking trains and shuttles for storage
• Cleaning trains to maintain a first‑class appearance
• Selling tickets and cash handling may be required
• Perform other duties as assigned within the Visitor Services department

• High School Diploma
• Strong communications skills
• Valid class E driver’s license
• Pass a yearly physical

• Available most weekends and holidays
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Withstand the physical stress of getting on and off trains frequently
• Maneuver guests using wheelchairs on and off trains and stand for long periods of time
• Drive shuttles in city traffic
• People skills required to considerately handle guest issues within guidelines of Zoo policies

All successful candidates for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and a drug test. As this is a safety‑sensitive role, a negative drug test result is mandatory. The drug test screens for five substances, including marijuana.
