Job Title: Accounting Supervisor Sr

Location: St Paul, Minnesota

Job Summary

The Accounting Supervisor Senior leads the financial operations of the Office of Higher Education within the Financial Services Department. The role manages the SWIFT Accounting System, oversees payroll, purchasing procurement, accounts payable and receivables, and ensures accurate reporting. It also develops and implements the agency-wide fiscal compliance training program, supports audit processes, and provides supervision and backup for accounting staff.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the SWIFT Accounting System and related financial processes.
  • Supervise payroll and procurement operations.
  • Oversee the accounts payable and receivables cycle.
  • Reconcile financial reports for monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
  • Coordinate external audit activities and maintain compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Develop and deliver fiscal compliance and best‑practice training to agency staff.
  • Provide backup support for financial statement preparation, payroll processing, procurement, and accounting transactions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Four (4) years of experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, or procurement in a state or complex organization.
  • Two (2) years of experience reconciling financial accounts and reports.
  • Experience with Minnesota's Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT) or similar ERP systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with proven project and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead accounting staff and guide them in accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or comparable applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience managing day‑to‑day financial operations.
  • Two (2) years of experience with fiscal year‑end closing at a state agency.
  • Experience preparing financial statements, generating reports, and reconciling accounts.
  • Experience with Minnesota procurement processes.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to position self and move sufficiently to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Maintain a stationary position for long periods.
  • Can occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
