The DNR is seeking to hire one (1) Universal Graphic Designer (print, digital, and accessible design) to create clear, digitally accessible, and compelling visual storytelling that translates complex technical, scientific, legal, and policy information for diverse audiences and communication needs at our central office in Saint Paul, MN.
Working within the Creative Services Unit (CSU), you will collaborate with colleagues across divisions—including agency leadership—as well as art and creative directors to plan, design, produce, and maintain visual communication for education, outreach, marketing, and public information. This role balances independent creative expertise with strong collaboration and customer service, while ensuring all work meets high standards for quality, timeliness, digital accessibility, and state branding.
Responsibilities- Plan, design, produce, and archive high‑quality graphic design and visual communications for print and digital use.
- Translate complex scientific, technical, and policy information into clear, accessible visual storytelling.
- Serve as a trusted subject matter expert for graphic design, accessibility, and state branding standards.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the agency to scope projects, develop estimates, meet deadlines, and incorporate feedback.
- Ensure all creative work meets digital accessibility requirements, branding, data compliance, and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, task reporting, and digital asset organization.
- Contribute to a respectful, safe, and collaborative workplace culture.
This position may be eligible to telework up to 50% of the time, which is subject to change. If approved, the employee would be required to complete a telework agreement.
Minimum Qualifications- Two (2) years of graphic design experience with a strong, quality‑driven design portfolio demonstrating proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite sufficient to produce original artwork, design layouts and print and digital deliverables (e.g. illustrations, publications, brochures, flyers, booklets, reports, signage, presentation materials, social media, and trade show displays).
- A bachelor’s degree in graphic design may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
- Thorough understanding of principles for brand management and digital accessibility sufficient to ensure consistent use of accessibility techniques and state branding in all work‑related deliverables.
- Technical knowledge sufficient to coordinate production with internal clients and external production vendors.
- Human relations skills sufficient to contribute positively to a high‑performing team, build strong working relationships through emotional intelligence, and navigate and resolve conflicts effectively.
