Position Summary
The on-call Associate Producer I on the digital team will be called in to cover shifts as needed. The on-call Associate Producer will play an important role in maintaining the high standards of Marketplace’s website. You will be part of a welcoming and supportive team that works across the newsroom.
We’re looking for an on-call Associate Producer who is driven to find new and compelling ways to tell stories on digital platforms; organized and meticulous; and can thrive in a quick-paced environment.
The on-call Associate Producer will help present radio content on the website, curate the homepage and write podcast descriptions. Because of the timing of our audio shows, this position would either fill in for an early shift from 6:30am EST to 2:30pm EST or a later shift from 11am EST to 7pm EST. The position is an on-call basis.
Compensation$34.00 per USD hour.

Position Responsibilities- Re-write broadcast scripts into article copy.
- Work with Marketplace producers to identify strong broadcast content that would translate well to web.
- Pull audio links from our audio system and embed into web stories.
- Select photos, adjust in Photoshop as needed and embed photos for articles, write captions in AP style.
- Perform a preliminary name and fact check on radio copy for the web.
- Curate the homepage, selecting articles for the top of the page and other key elements on the home page.
- Monitor all copy flow, daily and communicate with editors and reporters.
- Write podcast descriptions and titles for the shows.
- Publish podcasts in a timely manner to catch morning listening traffic. Double- and triple-check posts for spelling, grammar and factual accuracy.
- Work with our editorial partners at the BBC to publish their content for Marketplace on the website.
- When needed, edit radio reporters assigned to MMR for short, breaking news pieces, including the Marketplace Minute podcast.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of work experience in production, editorial, media or related experience.
- Excellent news judgment.
- Resourcefulness and ability to problem-solve.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong critical judgment skills and the ability to make decisions regarding credibility, personality, and value of material to program.
- Ability to successfully meet deadlines and manage multiple responsibilities under pressure on a consistent basis.
- Superior communication, organizational and collaborative skills.
- Independent, and takes initiative.
- Knowledge of Word Press.
