The School of Dentistry Pediatric clinic is hiring for an Adjunct Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor who is proficient in teaching, demonstrating, and assessing practice-level dental procedures and clinical care.

An Adjunct Clinical Assistant Associate Professor must be proficient to teach, demonstrate, and assess practice-level dental procedures and clinical care. They support the division by evaluating the clinical, technical, and professional development of dental students in the predoctoral pediatric dental clinic. Faculty members are expected to uphold all clinical policies, patient safety protocols, and operational procedures of the School of Dentistry at the University of Minnesota.

This position is vital to providing consistent clinical instruction and floor supervision for predoctoral dental students in their pediatric dentistry clinic rotation. The ideal candidate will possess a positive attitude, a strong interest in clinical teaching, and a commitment to providing high-quality comprehensive care to a diverse patient population.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Instruction:
    Deliver clinical teaching and direct floor supervision for predoctoral dental students during their pediatric dentistry clinical rotation.
  • Student Mentorship:
    Supervise and mentor students providing comprehensive patient care, ensuring appropriate techniques, diagnosis, behavioral management, and treatment planning.
  • Skill Evaluation:
    Assess students' hands‑on clinical competencies, professional communication, and patient management skills.
  • Operational Integration:
    Collaborate across clinic teams, including dental assistants, scheduling staff, and admissions, to support smooth daily operations.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • DDS, DMD or equivalent dental degree
  • Active Dental License in good standing with the Minnesota Board of Dentistry
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Demonstrated professional clinical experience providing comprehensive dental care to pediatric populations (e.g., via general dentistry, pediatric-focused practices, or growth-and-development focused care)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, residency training, or specialty training in a relevant dental specialty or public health field
  • Prior experience in clinical, preclinical faculty teaching and course coordination
  • Demonstrated experience in dental practice management, clinical leadership, or staff supervision
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment

Pay and Benefits

Pay Rang e: $2,013 - $59,755; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
