Position
Special Education Para educator – Temporary at Mounds View Public Schools
ScheduleMonday–Friday, 6.5 hours per day (7 hours total with 30‑minute unpaid break)
DatesStart date:
January 5, 2026 End date:
May 1, 2026
Pay: $26.38 per hour, per para educator labor agreement.

- A high school diploma or GED plus one of the following:
- An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree,
- Two years of post‑secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) applicable toward a bachelor's degree,
- Passing score of 460 or higher on the Para Pro Assessment or a passing score on Para educator Online.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for working with staff, students, and community.
- Strong communication skills—ability to present information in one‑to‑one and small group settings.
- Patience, teamwork, and emotional resilience in working with parents and students.
- Health‑care experience or training may be required.
- Ability to work with students who are emotionally, physically, and/or mentally impaired.
- Ability to remain composed under stressful conditions.
- Written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and write reports and correspondence.
- Basic math skills for interpreting student data.
- Computer proficiency with multiple software packages.
- Awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Assist in instruction and support of students in classrooms, learning sites, and community settings; help students develop self‑advocacy and independence.
- Monitor, evaluate, and record classroom behavior; problem‑solve and discuss expectations; initiate appropriate consequences; provide positive feedback; manage misbehavior including, when necessary, restraint per individual student plans and district policy.
- Collaborate with teachers to determine performance levels, adapt instructional objectives, provide input on student needs, and implement daily instructional plans.
- Occasionally supervise students in modified learning centers, assist with assignments, and report behavior and recommendations to teachers, staff, and administrators.
- Provide support for students’ personal hygiene, medical needs, toileting, diapering, lifting, writing, feeding, boarding, and transportation issues.
- Supervise students during lunch, hallways, and field trips to ensure orderly conduct.
- Administer, correct, grade worksheets and tests; record grades; assign work; cover classroom when teacher is absent.
- Prepare classroom materials, complete evaluation sheets, and draft memos and letters for staff and parents.
- Attend staff meetings to discuss academic, behavioral, vocational progress with teachers, psychologists, social workers, parents, and employers involved in job placement.
- Ability to lift as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Walk within the building regularly, lift or move up to 50 lb with assistance or push up to 90 lb, and restrain students when needed.
