Overview
St. Paul Academy and Summit School seeks a one-year long-term substitute Physical Education teacher for the Middle School (Grades 6-8). Position begins August 2025 and ends June 2026. The role delivers quality physical education and health/wellness education to middle school students, focusing on physical and emotional well-being, fitness, nutrition, and healthy habits.

About the Middle SchoolThe Middle School (Grades 6-8) emphasizes a transition from childhood to young adulthood in a warm, inclusive environment. The program combines rigorous academics with developmentally appropriate activities and a culture of responsibility, reflection, and collaboration. The advisory system and Developmental Designs for Middle School support students’ social, emotional, and academic growth.
Responsibilities- Deliver developmentally appropriate physical education and health/wellness instruction to middle school students.
- Create developmentally appropriate curricula and assess student progress.
- Establish a supportive and engaging classroom environment.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and parents/guardians.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, students, and families.
- Advise students and contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom.
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education and/or health education or related fields.
- Experience teaching middle school students as a teacher and coach.
- Understanding of the developmental needs of young adolescents; commitment to self-reflection, empathy, teamwork, and flexibility; culturally responsive pedagogy; inclusive classroom community.
- Ability to operate effectively in diverse environments and interact with people from varied backgrounds.
- Additional certifications encouraged (e.g., CPR/AED, yoga, outdoor education).
