Position: SSW Community Faculty, 2025-26

Position Overview

This role provides instruction and advising related to course participation and student learning objectives to students enrolled in the Master of Social Work (MSW), Youth Development Leadership (YDL), Youth Studies (YOST), and Practicum Education Programs. The individual in this role also engages in efforts to fulfill the mission of the School of Social Work by developing teaching materials, exams, and assignments.

Individuals in this role must have the capacity to demonstrate ethical social work practice to students. Individuals in this role are required to use electronic educational technology to communicate with students and other faculty, grade assignments and exams, and submit student grades. While the majority of instruction is delivered in person, individuals in this role are expected to utilize the learning management system, Canvas, to communicate with students and to deliver supplementary instruction.

Individuals not familiar with Canvas and other education technology must be willing to learn how to use this technology in order to meet the needs of students. Individuals in this role are expected to collaborate with other faculty and to follow School of Social Work and University policies.

This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager.

Job Responsibilities

Teaching (90%)

  • Attend class meetings and deliver course content
  • Evaluate student performance and submit grading
  • Respond to student inquiries and meet with students

Course Preparation (10%)

  • Meet with appropriate faculty and gather information as needed
  • Develop course content and syllabus
  • Prepare course materials
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • MSW or related Master's degree (if applying for an MSW teaching position, not required for YOST or YDL)
  • Knowledge of the course content area
  • Training/Teaching experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in written work
  • Must be able to meet at the assigned class time, schedule office hours, and meet with School of Social Work personnel as necessary for the preparation and delivery of the course
  • Evidence of attention to diverse identities in teaching or professional experience, and the commitment to support the University's work in diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
  • Positive student evaluations from previously taught courses
  • Successful completion of graduate coursework beyond the master's level
Department Overview

Founded in 1917 on Dakota homeland, the School of Social Work at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities is part of a public, research-intensive university and one of seven administrative units in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). The School offers several graduate and undergraduate educational programs including: a PhD in Social Work; a Master of Social Work;

a Master of Education in Youth Development Leadership; a Bachelor of Science in Youth Studies, and undergraduate minors in Family Violence Prevention, Social Justice, and Youth Studies. Underlying all these programs is a social justice value base and a commitment to the most vulnerable and marginalized populations in our society. The curricula of our educational programs, and faculty research and engagement, intentionally seek to emphasize and expand anti-racist perspectives, social, economic and racial justice, and decolonization.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:
The salary range for this position is $1,785-$2,585 per credit. Final salary offers are determined based on the candidate's number of semesters taught within the department, as well as semesters taught outside the department, as verified by provided SRTs.

Time Appointment: 25%

Position Type: PA

Note:

Each semester is counted as one, regardless of the number of classes counted during that term.
