Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 6.58 hrs/day with 30‑minute unpaid break (7.08 total hrs/day)

Start Date:

ASAP

Pay: $26.38 per hour, per para‑educator labor agreement

Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or GED and one of the following:
    • An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree
    • Two years of post‑secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution applicable toward a bachelor’s degree
    • Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the Para Pro Assessment or a passing score on Para educator Online (contact Mounds View Public Schools Community Education ndsviewschools.org/paraprofessional or ETS at 1‑800‑772‑9476 or (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).)
  • Excellent human relations skills when dealing with staff, students, and community.
  • Ability to present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group situations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in team situations and maintain patience with parents and students.
  • Healthcare experience or training may be required.
  • Ability to work with emotionally, physically and/or mentally impaired students.
  • Composure under stressful conditions.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Basic mathematical computations and interpretation of student performance data.
  • Computer operation and proficiency with multiple software packages.
  • Awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Responsibilities
  • Paraprofessionals will receive CPI training if needed; training schedule will be provided.
  • Instruct and support students in classrooms, other learning sites, and community settings; assist in developing self‑advocacy skills and independence.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and record classroom behavior; problem‑solve, discuss expectations with students, and initiate appropriate consequences; provide positive feedback. Assist with goal setting. In EBD program or extreme cases, may restrain students per individual plans and district policy.
  • Meet with teachers to determine performance levels, modifications to objectives and assignments, and provide input on student needs; assist in implementing daily instructional plans.
  • Occasionally supervise students in modified learning centers, assist with assignments, monitor behavior, present recommendations to teachers, staff, and administrators.
  • Provide assistance with personal hygiene, medical needs, toileting, diapering, lifting, writing, feeding, boarding, or bus exit.
  • Supervise students during lunch, hallways, and field trips to ensure orderly conduct.
  • Administer, correct, and grade worksheets and tests; record grades; assign work; assume responsibility for small instructional groups or classrooms when teacher is absent.
  • Prepare classroom materials; file evaluation sheets; prepare memos and letters for staff and parents.
  • Attend staff meetings to discuss academic, behavioral, and vocational progress with teachers, psychologists, social workers, parents, and employers in job‑setting situations.
  • Must be able to lift.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Walk throughout a building; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance or push up to 90 pounds; restrain students when needed; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as required.
