Qualifications

  • High School diploma AND two years of college OR Associate’s degree OR MN passing score on the Para Educator test.
  • Effective behavior management and health support skills, able to maintain routine in a student’s day.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills for interactions with staff, students, and parents.
  • Experience working in a center‑based and inclusion setting.
  • Must be able to perform the essential job functions, which may include toileting, catheter use, lifting, medication administration, gastric tube feedings, health tasks to support student, pool, DAPE, ability to work outside.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in communication with staff, parents, and students.
  • Assist teacher/nurse in collection and maintenance of data.
  • Implement intervention strategies developed by licensed staff.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans.
  • Implement health plans.
  • Assist with crisis interventions and discipline.
  • Knowledge of effective sensory activities.
  • Instruct individual students following programs designed by lead teacher.
  • Assist with independent study.
  • Reinforce lessons with small groups of students.
  • Ability to work outdoors with students and staff in a variety of weather conditions.

Compensation / Benefits

RAVE Clerical Association, Wage Group V – Step 1 $ 21.32/hour, Step 2 $ 22.62/hour, Step 3 $ 23.91/hour. Employees in the paraprofessional classification receive a $1.00 per hour differential in addition to their hourly base rate. If benefit eligible, benefits are available to new employees effective the first day of active employment and include medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, long‑term disability insurance, sick‑leave, state pension plan, tax‑deferred retirement savings account, and flexible spending account.

Some employee groups also receive vacation, holidays or personal leave. Benefit information is available at Employee Benefits – Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan ISD 196.
