St. Paul Academy and Summit School (SPA) is a coeducational, non-sectarian, college-preparatory day school serving more than 920 students in Prekindergarten through grade 12. Our three campuses are located approximately a mile apart in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Goodrich Campus serves students in grades K-5, the Randolph Campus serves students in grades 6-12. The Prekindergarten is located on the campus of St.

Catherine’s University and serves children beginning at age 4. The school draws students from St. Paul, Minneapolis, and throughout the eastern and western suburbs.

The Middle School at SPA is a place where students in Grades 6-8 experience the transition from childhood to young adulthood safely, surrounded by adults who care. Our culture is defined by our warm and welcoming community, our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and our innovative and rigorous curriculum. The Middle School curriculum emphasizes wide-ranging exploration and skill development in specific disciplines, taught by teachers who understand and genuinely enjoy students at this age.

Organization and accountability are emphasized, and students learn to take responsibility for managing their work.

In the Middle School, students are challenged to embrace new ideas and think independently. The classroom experience is based on increased academic rigor combined with increased freedom of choice and support for the social/emotional needs of young adolescents is provided using Developmental Designs for Middle School. Finally, the advisory system sets clear standards and expectations for individual behavior and community norms.

Salary Range
: $48,000 - $68,000 based on qualifications and experience

Successful candidates should bring experience in teaching and engaging middle school students across all foundational math content areas, including pre-algebra, geometry, and Algebra I. Training and experience working with middle school students in Math in Focus/Singapore Math is desired, as is the willingness to receive training in advance of the start date. Full-time Middle School teachers typically teach four classes and will act as an advisor to a group of Middle School students.

The successful candidate will have experience guiding students through content, research, and analysis, which emphasizes critical thinking, and will be able to teach and conduct discussions in a student-centered way. Demonstrated experience working with adolescents and understanding their social-emotional and academic development is essential. Collaboration across math levels and with teaching and advisory teams is essential for the success of the teacher as well as the program.

Strong candidates will have experience teaching full-time in a Middle School environment.

A bachelor’s degree in Math or a related field is required; a Master’s is preferred.
