OverviewWe are looking for an enthusiastic and driven
Mechanical Engineer to joinour New Product Development (NPD) and Engineer to Order (ETO) design team.
As a Mechanical Engineer at Veeco’s Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) site, based in St. Paul, MN, you will be highly involved in the design and development of capital equipmentusedto fabricate some of the most advanced and highest performing semiconductor devices in the world. These systems are critical in the manufacturing process for a wide range of high‑tech devices. This role involves overall system design, automation, vacuum vessel design, vacuum wafer transfer, andmany other engineering and design areas.
Responsibilities- Execute mechanical design tasks, including 3D modeling, simulations, and drafting using Solid Works.
- Design, develop, prototype and test all aspects of mechanical components and assemblies for ultra‑high vacuum (UHV) equipment.
- Prepare and present mechanical designs at peer reviews and cross‑function design reviews.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including
Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Software Engineering, and Operations to integrate mechanical systems into overall system designs. - Perform analytical studies and theoretical calculations requiring a variety of engineering knowledge, including analysis of vacuum vessels, heat transfer, material structural analysis, andmotion mechanisms.
- Prepare presentations and present design concepts, ideas, and test results to internal and external customers.
- Support procurement efforts in correlation with overall project deadlines.
- Provide “hands on” assistance and support to the manufacturing team.
- Create and release engineering documentation through the engineering change order (ECO) process.
- Identify appropriate materials for vacuum and semiconductor applications (eg. specialty ceramics, refractory metals, etc.).
- Identify fabrication technique improvements through research and working with vendors.
BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of experience or an MS degree is required. Experience designing capital equipment assemblies is preferred. Experience with 2D/3D CAD systems is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Proven ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic setting while collaborating within cross‑functional teams
- Demonstrated initiative and accountability by driving assigned projects from concept through successful completion
- Must be hands‑on with devices, prototyping, and troubleshooting
- General knowledge of electrical and software engineering disciplines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including specification development and the ability to make technical presentations>
- Experience with PLM systems and processes is required; experience with SAP ECTR is a plus
- Finite element analysis experience, both structural and thermal, is a plus
- Knowledge of industrial control systems, sensors, automation, robotics, instrumentation, motion control, motor selection, encoders, electronic packaging, SEMI regulatory standards is a plus
- Project management experience is a plus
- Familiarity designing systems that utilize hazardous…
