Job Overview

We are hiring 10 experienced Plant Operators for the Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities Environmental Services (ES) division, which operates nine wastewater treatment plants across the Twin Cities metro area. Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled, with the first review on January 7, 2026.

• Operate and monitor wastewater treatment plants to ensure high quality water and air standards.
• Maintain and troubleshoot plant equipment and processes.
• Shut down, restart, and perform scheduled maintenance on various plant systems.
• Respond to emergencies and abnormal conditions.
• Document plant operations and report incidents.

• High‑school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Minimum six (6) months of verifiable work experience in a wastewater treatment plant, public utilities, wastewater collection system, or industrial environment, or completion of a wastewater certification program or water environments technology degree.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

• Shift options: 8‑hour, 10‑hour, or 12‑hour shifts around the clock.
• Plant assignments are at hire and then bid based on seniority.
• Locations include Cottage Grove, Eagan, Empire Township, Hastings, Rogers, Shakopee, St. Paul, Stillwater, and East Bethel.
