Senior or Principal Engineer

WHO WE ARE

Metropolitan Council is the regional government for the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area. The Environmental Services (ES) Division operates and maintains the wastewater collection and treatment system in the Twin Cities region and provides coordinated long‑range water resources and supply planning.

Three vacancies for Senior or Principal Engineer in the Plant Engineering group within the Capital Design and Delivery department. Salary ranges are provided below.

• Lead project delivery activities through planning, design, construction and commissioning.
• Manage project budgets and expenditures, track approval processes, and schedule milestones.
• Represent the Council with regulatory agencies, local interests, neighborhood groups, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare consultant work authorizations, review deliverables, and provide work direction to A/E consultants.
• Monitor projects during construction and commissioning and provide engineering support services.
• Perform lower‑level engineer duties as needed.

• System‑Wide Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Replacement – $20 M

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Four years of related engineering experience.
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) or registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Minnesota or a state with reciprocity.

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Minnesota or a state with reciprocity.
• Five years of related engineering experience.

• Experience managing large multi-disciplinary capital projects ($15 M construction cost or greater).
• Experience in all three phases of project delivery for wastewater or water projects.
• Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office, Blue Beam, and E‑Builder.
• Experience working collaboratively in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive environments.

Senior Engineer – Full Salary Range: $88,566 – $143,707, Anticipated Starting Salary Range: $100,526 – $115,000, Union: AFSCME Grade H, Exempt.

Principal Engineer – Full Salary Range: $95,805 – $155,397, Anticipated Starting Salary Range: $111,384 – $140,000, Union: AFSCME Grade I, Exempt.
