Join the City of Saint Paul as our City Clerk, where you’ll provide strategic leadership and ensure transparency, accuracy, and accessibility in all legislative and public record functions. Acting as a connector between City Council, departments, and the Mayor’s Office, you’ll play a vital role in strengthening public trust and supporting efficient, responsive city governance.

What you will do
  • Build Strong Relationships Across Stakeholders Serve as a key liaison between the City Council, departments, and the Mayor’s Office—facilitating communication, collaboration, and resolution to achieve shared goals.

  • Improve and Modernize Processes Evaluate and streamline long-standing administrative or legislative processes, introducing innovative systems and technology to enhance efficiency, compliance, and service delivery.

  • Lead Through Transition and High-Volume Work Provide steady leadership in a dynamic environment—balancing accuracy, deadlines, and compliance during elections, Council sessions, and organizational change.

  • Ensure Legislative and Legal Accuracy Oversee management of official records, ordinances, and resolutions; certify actions; and ensure adherence to Minnesota Data Practices, open meeting laws, and the City Charter.

  • Foster Operational Excellence and Customer Service Lead and mentor staff, promote consistent work standards, and ensure responsive, transparent service to residents, elected officials, and community partners.

  • Medical Insurance - Single medical coverage fully paid for by employer; significant City contribution for family coverage.

  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability are provided.
  • Life Insurance - Saint Paul pays for 100% of premium cost for an amount of coverage equaling one and one-half times the employee's annual salary.

A Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Law, Management, Political Science, Communications, or a related field, and at least six years of progressively responsible professional level experience in a municipal, county, state, or legislative environment.
