Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Delivers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow, improves pharmacy financials, oversees inventory, and enhances patient experience.
Oversees the professional development of pharmacy staff through training, coaching, and formal performance management initiatives.
- Patient
Experience:
Engage with patients, greet them, assist with products and services, resolve issues promptly, and answer questions to ensure a positive patient experience. - Customer Service Leadership:
Model and share best practices to deliver a distinctive patient experience and demonstrate care and Walgreens service traits. - Patient Engagement:
Proactively offer services and promote Walgreens healthcare offerings to shift the pharmacy role from transactional to interpersonal. - Community Engagement:
Participate in events as requested by management to reflect the communities served.
- Operations:
Counsel patients on medication usage, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy, generics, cost-effective options, and OTC products. Refer to medical providers as needed to ensure safe and satisfactory outcomes. - Pharmacy Tasks:
Perform compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management; review and accurately dispense prescribed medications within regulations and company standards. - Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure pharmacy operations comply with regulations and policies; establish efficient workflows, schedule staff, assign roles, and coordinate activities; manage opening/closing and shift changes. - Good Faith Dispensing:
Ensure elements of Good Faith are present in all dispensing activities per state and federal laws. - Strategic Opportunities:
Collaborate with Store Manager to define and develop new business opportunities. - Technology & IT:
Maintain knowledge of pharmacy systems (workflow, fulfillment, billing, documentation, inventory, POS) and support staff and patients; identify productivity improvements. - Insurance & Billing:
Ensure claims are processed accurately to minimize rejections; resolve payer issues and participate in third-party audits as needed. - Clinical Communication:
Follow up with medical providers on prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; discuss alternatives when appropriate. - Clinical Services:
Perform immunizations, diagnostic testing, disease state management, and other healthcare services as required. - Collaboration & Virtual Support:
Partner with centralized support for patient registration and issue resolution; conduct virtual product reviews per company guidelines. - Pharmacy Maintenance:
Oversee maintenance, housekeeping, and layout changes to ensure a functional and presentable pharmacy environment. - Documentation:
Prepare and submit records and reports required by state and federal laws to operate the pharmacy business.
- Collaborate with Store Manager on hiring, discipline, termination, and compliance with employment laws.
- Set expectations and goals, promote teamwork, recognize improvements, and manage pharmacy staff performance through training and formal reviews.
- Identify high-potential team members and support career progression with Store Manager.
- Address employee relations concerns and maintain morale by addressing welfare, complaints, and conflicts.
- Maintain required licensing/credentialing/certification to provide clinical services.
- Continue professional development by staying current with pharmacy and healthcare knowledge and Walgreens publications.
- Complete required education credits and training; seek feedback and coaching from leadership.
- Support Store Manager by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to staff.
- Analyze performance data including pharmacy financials, customer service, and inventory; oversee asset protection and identify improvement opportunities.
- Develop relationships with local medical providers; promote the pharmacy business and health and wellness initiatives in the community.
- BS in Pharmacy or Pharm
D from an accredited institution. - Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district.
- Certified Immunizer or willing to become one within 90 days of hire.
- At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including prescription filling, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing.
