The Nutrition and Clinic Services Unit within the Child and Family Health Division is looking to fill two (2) State WIC Consultant vacancies! The purpose of the position is to serve as a consultant to the state's Local Agencies in the administration and delivery of nutrition services of the Women, Infant and Child (WIC) program.
Primary Responsibilities- Serve as a Consultant to assigned local agencies, in the administration and delivery of nutrition services of the WIC program.
- Monitor and evaluate LA compliance with federal regulations governing WIC services and make recommendations to improve the quality of WIC services provided, through the Management Evaluation (ME) and Financial Review (FR) process in collaboration with other State WIC staff.
- Maintain, through continuing education, professional association attendance and reading, a high degree of knowledge of the WIC program, maternal and child nutrition, public health principles, civil rights as practiced in the WIC program, customer service/Participant Centered Services, education principles, quality improvement, program administration and other topics pertinent to the population served.
- Facilitate collaboration and communication with and between State office staff, other WIC consultants, and local agency staff and leadership.
This position is eligible for hybrid telework. Employees living within 50 miles of the office must work in‑office at least 50% of the time each month. Employees outside that radius may telework more with division director approval.
LocationsPosition locations will be determined by the top candidate and will be based out of one of the following MDH district office locations:
St. Paul, St. Cloud, Duluth, Rochester, Mankato, Marshall, Bemidji, Fergus Falls.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience working within public health, that includes planning, evaluating/monitoring training and implementing programs related to the Women, Infant and Child (WIC) program, nutrition education, and/or nutrition education research.
- Experience must also include one of the following:
- Public education or in‑service training programs
- Individual counseling and special diet planning
- Teaching nutrition or food service courses in a college or vocational‑technical program credited
Minimum Qualifications to be assessed at interview:
- Knowledge and experience in local public health in Minnesota.
- Knowledge of public health systems and practices.
- Knowledge of adult learning and nutrition education methodologies.
- Knowledge of the impact of poverty, low literacy and other social disadvantages on nutrition and health.
- Knowledge of, and an appreciation for, cultural differences, particularly those associated with health beliefs, dietary practices and parenting.
