Job Overview
An athletic trainer working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a specialized orthopedic and musculoskeletal clinic is responsible for safe and effective direct delivery of patient care. This includes triage, coordination of care, patient evaluation, care delivery, assessment, and discharge planning in collaboration with a physician. Responsibilities also encompass casting, bracing, and instruction in self‑care and home exercise programs.
This position is eligible for a $5,000 bonus!
Responsibilities- Perform rooming procedures, including taking vitals and detailed medical history.
- Prepare patients and supplies for injections or other interventions such as X‑ray and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
- Assist in facilitating appropriate referrals to medical personnel, including X‑ray, lab, athletic training, physical therapy, hand therapy, chiropractic, primary care, and specialist physician services.
- Perform patient assessment, including concussion baseline testing and post‑injury assessment; provide concussion education to patients and families in partnership with the provider.
- Educate patients and families in self‑care, including home exercise program instruction as directed by the provider; communicate proper follow‑up care to patients, families, and clinic staff in written form or over the phone.
- Apply appropriate casting and bracing devices.
- Understand all staff members’ responsibilities and support smooth role transitions.
- Manage provider schedules daily, ensuring timely patient access and creating access for acute injuries; identify opportunities to improve workflows and enhance the patient experience.
- Board of Certification Certified Athletic Trainer upon hire.
- Athletic Trainer license with the MN Board of Medical Practice upon hire.
- Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) upon hire.
- 3+ years experience as an athletic trainer or a combination of athletic training and other healthcare work (e.g., CMA, Nursing Assistant, PT, PTA, LPN).
- Membership of the National Athletic Training Association.
