Channel your interest in applied research of health care markets, access and financing by joining the fantastic Health Policy Research team in the Health Economics Program (HEP). Collaborate with us as we strive to increase our understanding of the drivers of health care spending and analyze Minnesota’s health care provider market to bring the best evidence to health policy discussions in the state.
The Health Economics Program is seeking a skilled analyst to lead and conduct independent analysis on hospital and provider financing, utilization, and service availability. This position plays a critical role in shaping health policy through data‑driven insights and supports state‑level efforts to improve health care affordability, access, and equity.
Working as a member of the Health Care Provider Market Research & Oversight group, in the Health Policy Research (HPR) unit of the Health Economics Program, the analyst will manage multiple simultaneous analyses using key state and federal data on hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, diagnostic imaging facilities, radiation therapy clinics, and long‑term care facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and conduct analysis on provider and hospital financing, utilization, and service availability using appropriate techniques and methods.
- Perform, analyze, and interpret statistical analysis of financial and administrative encounter data sets.
- Develop and maintain robust data quality assurance, validation tools, and documentation.
- Communicate findings through clear, accessible formats for both technical and public audiences.
- Contribute to legislative research, and the development of state health care policy.
- Collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
This hybrid position is currently eligible for up to 50% telework for applicants residing in Minnesota or in a bordering state within 50 miles of the work location. Telework of up to 50% may be approved based on the needs of the position.
Minimum QualificationsThree (3) years
* of experience conducting health care systems research projects using advanced statistical analysis which may include data science, analytics, interoperability, data equity, informatics, business intelligence, artificial intelligence, and data strategy, data modernization, governance and research.
Additional qualifications to be assessed during the interview process:
- Ability to utilize and synthesize different data sets to complete research.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills with ability to critically evaluate research methodologies, quality assurance, and analytical approaches.
- Knowledge of hospital operations, finance and/or data reporting systems.
- Proficiency in statistical software such as R, SAS, STATA, SPSS and data visualization tools such as Power
