Position Overview

The State of Minnesota’s Office of Higher Education supports large and complex database and reporting systems. This temporary position (3 years) will assist with diverse data analysis activities for student loan data, data feeds, financial reporting, and other areas as needed. The analyst will work closely with developers and business owners to design solutions, conduct data analysis, write complex SQL queries, and recommend system implementations.

The role requires strong analytical thinking, advanced SQL skills, knowledge of data process flows, and effective problem‑solving. On‑site work at 1450 Energy Park Dr., Saint Paul is required at least 50% of the time, with limited telework opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of 4 years of IT‑related experience performing data analysis or quality assurance for large‑scale, enterprise initiatives.

  • Experience leading data analysis and data reconstruction efforts.
  • Experience with SQL, leading SQL development and code reviews.
  • Experience with data validation.
  • Experience providing technical support and administration for data systems.
  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate mutual understanding between parties.
  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem‑solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT‑related field substitutes for 3 years of experience, a bachelor’s degree substitutes for 2 years, and an associate’s degree substitutes for 1 year.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of dimensional data modeling and physical database design.
  • Experience with reporting/analytical dashboard products.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing.
  • Experience with statistical/trend analysis, data visualization, mining, operational reporting, analytical reporting, ad‑hoc queries, executive dashboards, and report distribution.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, perform root‑cause analysis, and propose solutions.
  • Ability to examine data structures, including Data Warehouse/BI queries, and utilize information obtained.
