ATTACH COVER LETTER AND RESUME

Under general supervision, provides legal services to indigent adult and juvenile criminal defendants in appeals to the Minnesota appellate courts, in post-conviction proceedings, supervised release revocation hearings, and other related proceedings.

Examples of Duties
  • Performs work of routine difficulty in providing legal services to indigent defendants in postconviction cases, appeals of sentencing and probation revocation orders, supervised release and parole revocation hearings, and similar tasks.
  • Knowledge of criminal and administrative law and procedure;
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods and practices of legal research and investigation;
  • Knowledge of judicial procedures and the Rules of Evidence; and
  • Knowledge of the pleading and practice of effective presentation of court cases.
  • Excellent research and writing skills;
  • Good knowledge of criminal law and procedure, evidence, and administrative law and procedure;
  • Good knowledge of judicial procedures and the Rules of Criminal Procedure, Civil Appellate Procedure, and Evidence.
  • Ability to analyze legal documents, organize facts to effectively present evidence and other material in written and oral form, and to present persuasive arguments in court cases.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with prosecutors, judges, hearing officers, corrections agents, colleagues in addition to clients and the general public.
  • Basic computer skills.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college of law and admission to the Bar of the State of Minnesota or a person who has graduated from an accredited law school and is certified to practice under the Supreme Court Student Practice Rule.
    • Individuals hired under the Student Practice Rule must pass the bar on their first attempt.
    • Failure to pass the bar is grounds for dismissal.
  • An office that utilizes personal computers and has email and access to the Internet.
