The Track Maintenance Supervisor (TMS) is responsible for management of Track Department preventative maintenance plan by writing procedures, generating preventative maintenance cycles, and ensuring timely completion and record keeping. This position will prioritize maintenance tasks, respond to and resolve track related issues, provide direction for the track maintenance crews, and coordinate activities with other Metro Transit departments and outside agencies.

TMS will be responsible for assuring that Metro Transit policy and procedures are followed and necessary training is developed and/or provided for professional development of personnel. The Track Maintenance Supervisor is expected to ensure that all Metro Transit track specifications are followed. TMS will also see that material and tool needs are met, stock is adequate, and accurate records are kept.

This supervisor will work closely with Southwest Project Office to assure that Green Line Extension construction is proceeding according to approved plan, special maintenance procedures related to Snow Removal, Vegetation Control, Switch Maintenance and Public Crossings are developed, and project completion timeline goals are met. This supervisor will also aid the Track Manager in procuring required special tools and material for maintenance.

This posting will create an eight-month eligibility list.

What you would do in this job

* Assures that critical items/conditions disclosed during Green Line Extension construction are immediately reported to responsible Project Manager, Track Manager, and Rail Systems Director. Items of a not-so-critical nature are reviewed, documented and reported in a timely fashion to all responsible parties. Provides coordination with Project Office and Rail Systems Maintenance Departments. Ensures tools and equipment necessary for start-up of Green Lines are identified, procured, received, inspected and tested for implementation into inspection and maintenance operating system.

* Assists in the design review and turnover of track systems.

* Assists in minor design/construction changes of track system.

* Develops maintenance procedures. This will include snow removal, rail grinding, vegetation maintenance, noise control, vibration control, and matters dealing with public safety and perception.

* Assists in the hiring of Track Maintainer Personnel.

* Communicates with individuals throughout the organization to assess the support needed from Rail Systems Track Maintenance Department.

* Writes procedures, prioritizes maintenance tasks, generates preventative maintenance cycles, ensures timely completion of tasks and maintains records of maintenance. Prioritizes track maintenance tasks. Responds to and resolves track related issues, providing direction to track maintenance crews. Coordinates activities with other Metro Transit departments and with outside agencies. Supervise inspection activities and assure that policy, procedures and specifications are followed in consistent manner.
· Ensures compliance of the Track Department safety program.

* Provides constructive feedback on performance to hourly employees; initiates appropriate disciplinary action for employees supervised.

* May be delegated to manage Track Maintenance Department in the absence of the Manager.

* Interfaces with Metro Transit Contractors, including Track Geometry annual inspection run, Rail Internal Defect annual inspection run, Rail Grinding operations, Rail Welding by contractor, Track Surfacing by contractor, and other contractor activity on the track zone.

* Performs other duties directly related to this position as assigned.

* Monitors and approves Track Maintainer timesheets, time-off issues, and clothing and tool requests.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

Any of the following combinations of education in the field of Engineering or a related field, along with experience in track maintenance. Experience must include at least one (1) year in a supervisory, lead, or managerial role.

* High school diploma and8 years of experience in track maintenance, including one (1) year in a supervisory, lead, or managerial role.
