Job Title:
Blood Component Manufacturing Technician (Union)
Join the American Red Cross and contribute to the world’s largest humanitarian network. This role involves manufacturing blood products and samples, processing units into transfusable components (red cells, platelets, plasma) and performing leukoreduction after units are received from donors.
As a Red Cross team member, you will support your team, show up for every shift, and interact in a positive, proactive, and customer-focused manner with internal and external customers.
Key Responsibilities- Meet quality and quantity production goals, prioritize workload, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Perform inventory management throughout the manufacturing and distribution process.
- Perform data entry and operate computer programs related to component production, labeling, storage, and sample tube management.
- Analyze information from other departments and make decisions to meet production timelines.
- Perform complex manufacturing tasks such as pooled product manufacturing, freezing, washing, deglycerolizing of blood products, and pathogen reduction.
- Communicate effectively with internal customers, vendors, and volunteers.
Standard Schedule
:
Monday – Friday 6:00 pm – 2:30 am
Training Information
:
The first 4 weeks of employment, Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Pay Information
: $20.80/hour, plus shift differentials for working after 3:00 pm during the week ($2.25 more per hour).
- High School or equivalent required.
- Minimum 2 years of related experience in a regulatory, laboratory, or manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and related experience preferred.
- Good computer skills, ability to use a wide variety of programs and laboratory equipment, attention to detail, accurate documentation, and good decision-making skills.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to work on a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
Requires standing, stretching, stooping and bending for extended periods. Lift, pull, push and move objects up to 50 pounds. May work in walk-in refrigerator/freezers for periods of time. May be required to wear protective clothing such as lab coats, gloves, and face shields.
