Job Overview
Assesses and meets specific needs of breastfeeding women, both inpatient and outpatient, and works with the maternity care team and clinical staff as a resource.
Shifts are a mix of 8‑hour shifts (7 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) and 12‑hour shifts (7 a.m.–7:30 p.m.). Saturdays and Sundays are 8‑hour lactation shifts, and 12‑hour shifts are postpartum shifts. Every third weekend rotation. Variable scheduling.
Works partially in postpartum as an RN and partially in lactation as IBCLC.
Responsibilities- Provides one‑on‑one consultation, develops, and implements education for patients/families in the Health East Outpatient Lactation Clinic.
- Provides follow‑up for patients who have discussed lactation concerns with staff nurses and need additional consultation with a lactation consultant.
- Acts as a visible lactation resource to promote lactation services, breastfeeding education, and breast‑pump sales.
- Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
- Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.
- Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned.
- 2 to 3 years experience working with breastfeeding mothers
- IBCLC Certification
- Associate’s Degree
- BLS
- NRP certification within orientation period
- Bachelor's Degree
- 2 to 3 years knowledge of planning and implementing breastfeeding education for patients and staff
