Department Overview

The pediatric emergency department at Children’s Minnesota St. Paul hospital is a 32‑bed, Level IV trauma center that specializes in the assessment and stabilization of acute pediatric illness, injury and trauma. The multidisciplinary care team of more than 150 pediatric professionals treats over 45,000 patients a year. The department offers 24‑hour access, the shortest wait times in the country, private rooms, two resuscitation rooms, and is staffed with board‑certified pediatric emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses.

The team has access to cutting‑edge technology and supports family‑centered care guided by the Comfort Promise and the Core Value of “Kids First.”

Position Summary

The Unit Operations Coordinator is a pivotal front‑line individual who provides exemplary customer service to families, staff, providers, and visitors.

Responsibilities include:

  • Answering phone calls and directing visitors to their destinations.
  • Arranging deliveries to patient rooms and maintaining a safe, welcoming environment.
  • Serving as the first response for patient‑care questions and problem‑solving.
  • Coordinating with other departments and serving as the unit’s technology resource.
  • Supporting patient care on the unit(s) and providing overall administrative assistance.
  • Floating to other hospital departments as needed.
Education / Work Experience
  • High school diploma preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in a patient‑care setting preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Outstanding professional and positive customer‑service skills.
  • Positive attitude and exceptional problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and hospital technology systems.
  • Ability to coach others with hospital technology systems.
  • Competence with basic medical terminology.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and a clear understanding of the English language.
  • Self‑directed, organized, and resourceful.
  • Ability to multitask, direct support information processes, and work independently and within a team.

Compensation & Benefits

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary‑survey benchmark data. Eligibility for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits is available. Positions that require night, weekend, or on‑call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay. All job offers are contingent upon successful completion of an occupational health assessment, drug screen, background investigation, and compliance with the U.S. Government Form I‑9.
