Job Requirements

For this PACU/Pre-Op/Phase II RN travel position, the key requirements are:

  • License: Minnesota RN license preferred/in hand. If not licensed, the traveler must apply for a Minnesota RN license through the Aya project after accepting an offer. Pending license is acceptable under the posting.
  • Experience: 1–2 years requested in the opening, while the qualifications section says 3 years and the facility typically requires 1 year of specialty experience. For screening, I would consider at least 1 year of PACU/Pre-Op/Phase II experience, with 2–3 years being stronger.
  • Travel experience: Required according to the qualifications section, although the top portion says first-time travelers are accepted. Because of this conflict, I would treat prior travel experience as preferred/likely required for submission and verify with the recruiter.
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required. The qualifications section also lists NIHSS.
  • Epic experience: Required/hard requirement. The facility uses Epic/Excellian, and the posting specifically requires Epic experience.
  • Specialty experience: Strong PACU/Pre-Op/Phase II recovery
  • Patient ratio: 1:1.
  • Floating: Must be willing to float between the main hospital and Day Surgery Center, which are two locations within the same hospital.
  • Weekend: As needed according to unit needs.
  • Call: None.
  • Block scheduling: Not available/accepted.
  • Local restriction: No candidates within 100 miles of the facility, except radiology positions.
  • RTO: Ideally no more than 5 days.
  • References: At least 1 supervisor reference required at submission.
  • Background: Cannot proceed with an open background case. All background hits are reviewed during compliance.
  • Fingerprinting: Required for Minnesota compliance. Fingerprint results must be received by the compliance deadline or the start may be delayed.
  • Return staff: Must have been away from the system for at least 3 months if previously employed there as staff/per diem.
  • Submission documents: DOB, SSN, certifications, Nursys, and RTO are required for submission.
  • Shift options: Approximately 8:00 AM–8:30 PM, 9:30 AM–10:00 PM, or 11:00 AM–11:30 PM.

    Biggest screening criteria
  • I would verify these before submitting a candidate:
  • RN license/eligibility for Minnesota
  • PACU/Pre-Op/Phase II experience
  • Epic/Excellian experience
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS — and ideally NIHSS
  • At least 1 year specialty experience; preferably 2–3 years
  • Travel experience, due to the conflicting requirements
  • Willingness to float between the two hospital locations
  • Lives more than 100 miles from the facility
  • Available for 4×12s and no block scheduling
  • RTO ≤5 days preferred
  • Can complete Minnesota fingerprinting/background requirements
  • At least one supervisor reference available
