Public Safety Officer – Casual

Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota – Part‑time, non‑exempt position.

Macalester College is hiring a Public Safety Officer (Casual) to patrol building interiors, exteriors, parking facilities, and conduct security monitoring. The officer will respond to assistance requests, provide first aid, direct scenes, coordinate communication with internal and external agencies, and perform related duties as assigned. Coverage will be shift‑based with no assigned hours, and pay will range from $22.85 to $23.89 per hour based on experience.

• Protect lives, safeguard property, and maintain peace and order on campus through enforcement of local, state, federal laws and college rules.
• Proactively patrol residential areas and prevent crime.
• Respond to emergency situations and work closely with local police and emergency services.
• Conduct preliminary investigations of criminal or suspicious activities.
• Prepare, write, and file reports.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 years of experience with security procedures, codes, and regulations; knowledge of law‑enforcement terminology and techniques for interacting with diverse populations.
• Ability to anticipate and solve problems, make recommendations for improvement, and exercise sound judgment.
• Proficiency with card‑access, CCTV, and radio systems; ability to operate related hardware/software.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills for interaction with staff, students, and visitors.

Hourly rate: $22.85–$23.89 (based on experience). The position is not eligible for benefits.

Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check is a condition of employment.
