Beyond Housing strengthens families and transforms communities by connecting housing, education, health, and economic development. Our work focuses on the 24:1 Community within the Normandy Schools Collaborative footprint in North St. Louis County, Missouri.
As the Workforce VISTA, you will strengthen the Beyond Housing Academy’s capacity to connect residents with education, employment, and career advancement opportunities. During your service term, you will:
- - Research and map career pathways, training programs, credentials, and apprenticeships.
- - Develop partnerships with employers, education providers, and training organizations.
- - Identify funding and resources to address barriers such as transportation, childcare, and training costs.
- - Create resource guides, referral workflows, and training tools for Academy Advisors.
This assignment builds lasting systems and partnerships. The VISTA will not carry a family caseload.
We seek a curious, organized, and motivated candidate with strong research, writing, communication, and project management skills. Ideal candidates have an interest or experience in workforce development, education, community development, or a related field; are comfortable using Microsoft 365 and spreadsheets; and demonstrate a commitment to dignity, family choice, accountability, and economic mobility.
Gain practical workforce development experience, build relationships with regional partners, and create tools that remain useful beyond your service term. Your work will help Academy Advisors connect residents with pathways toward higher income and long-term stability.
The position is based in North St. Louis County, within the St. Louis metropolitan region. Relocating candidates should consider housing, transportation, and commuting needs.

- Research regional employment, education, credentials, apprenticeships, and career advancement opportunities, including requirements, costs, schedules, and locations.
- Map career pathways from entry through advancement and identify gaps between resident interests and available opportunities.
- Build a network of employers, colleges, training providers, and workforce partners; document eligibility, capacity, contacts, and referral steps.
- Explore tours, mentoring, mock interviews, internships, and hiring pathways; draft partnership and referral materials.
- Research funding and supports for training, transportation, childcare, technology, fees, tools, and uniforms; maintain a funding database and deadline calendar.
- Create an Academy Workforce Resource Guide and referral process to track outcomes.
- Gather staff and partner feedback, develop Academy Advisor training, and document tool maintenance.
