Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Geological Oceanography, with an Emphasis in Hydrography or Marine Geophysics

The College of Marine Science at the University of South Florida (USF) invites applications from Hydrographers or Marine Geophysicists whose research complements the strengths of the current faculty. We seek a hypothesis-driven, ocean-going scientist who uses a process-based approach to understand problems central to mapping the seafloor and its connections to Earth systems past, present, and future. The candidate will use innovative tools and multidisciplinary approaches to map the seafloor and subseafloor over a broad range of spatial and temporal scales.

Successful candidates may take advantage of national and international initiatives in blue economy/green transition, scientific ocean drilling site surveys, economic seafloor investigations, fishery surveys, passive and active ocean acoustics, etc. The successful candidate is expected to teach courses in Hydrography, Marine Geophysics, and other relevant specialty courses at the graduate level.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct transformative research in geological oceanography with emphasis in hydrography or marine geophysics.
  • Publish peer-reviewed research and acquire external research funding.
  • Mentor and supervise graduate students, demonstrating a commitment to exemplary instruction.
  • Foster an equitable and inclusive working environment and engage in service to the professional community.
Qualifications
  • Must have a Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline at the time of hire, with research experience in geological oceanography, hydrography, or marine geophysics.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly products and potential for an exemplary career of creative work and scholarly publication.
  • Evidence of success in obtaining extramural research funding.
  • Commitment to exemplary instruction, mentoring graduate students, and high ethical standards.
  • Preferred: innovative and interdisciplinary scholars capable of interacting with colleagues across related oceanography/marine science disciplines within academia, industry, and government; familiarity with hydrographic hardware and software.
  • For the Assistant Professor rank, record of scholarly products and potential for acquisition of extramural research funding; for Associate Professor/Professor ranks, outstanding record of research and commitment to instruction and mentoring.
